Fives ways to have more fun in your relationship
Have you hit a relationship plateau? If you’re asking yourself “Is this really all there is to it?” about your relationship, it might be time to turn it up a notch. No matter what stage you find yourself at in your relationship, it is possible to have more fun, more thrills, and a closer bond between you and your love interest. The change starts with you.
It is possible that there is something preventing you from having fun or being happy. If you suffer from depression or anxiety, you may find it difficult to fully be happy in your relationship. Or you simply might not be having fun because you have too many commitments on your plate. If obligations are taking away all your personal time, try to reorganize your personal schedule so you have time for yourself first. Get enough sleep, eat a healthy diet, and exercise. Once you have taken care of yourself, here are FIVE WAYS TO HAVE MORE FUN IN YOUR RELATIONSHIP:
1) LAUGH MORE: Find or plan activities where you will both be laughing
together, or making each other laugh. Hit up comedy clubs, watch reruns of The
40 Year Old Virgin or Saturday Night Live. Laughing not only is fun, but creates
lasting memories. You may need to learn to “lighten up” if laughing doesn’t come
naturally to you. Draw funny pictures, take silly photos, and try new things. Get a
book of jokes and read them to each other at a picnic. Remember, having fun isn’t
always about being entertained. Try and be a funnier person. When the two of you
are in the car together, challenge yourself to think of something that will make your
partner laugh.
2) CREATE TRADITIONS: Traditions are comforting in relationships, and create a
link between the past and future. You have holiday traditions with your family, but
create your own together with your partner. This could be a monthly visit to a
favorite restaurant, an annual visit to a camping spot, or watching your favorite
television show every Thursday night. You can plan for enjoying your new
traditions, and enjoy the memories in the weeks, months, and years to come. If
you can’t think of a tradition you’d like to start, ask your friends and family what
traditions they enjoy.
3) MAKE FRIENDS: A life without friends is lonely. Your boyfriend or girlfriend
should not be your only friend, and the two of you should make friends together.
Every day, you have the potential to make friends. Join a book club, volunteer at a
beach cleanup, or join a softball team. Be a listener, and show compassion to
others. Try to make at least one new friend a month.
4) TRAVEL TOGETHER: Try to get away at least once a month for two nights. In
addition to enjoying being away, there’s something special about coming home and
returning to a routine together. Take turns picking the destination. If you can’t
decide, you can always flip a coin, “Heads California, Tails Carolina” style.
Travelling doesn’t have to include pricy airfare and faraway hotels. You can head to
your local state campground and camp for under $30 a night.
5) HAVE THE RIGHT ATTITUDE: Part of being happy is having a good attitude.
If you’re negative and irritable, it’s hard to have fun. But if you’ll laugh at a
hilarious joke, are willing to try something new, or visit a country you’ve never
been to before, and truly are a “happy” camper, you’re on your way to being a fun
person. And being a fun person is the first step to having fun in your relationship.
