Even if you like completely different types of music, it is still a great way to generate good flow of conversation.

4) Talk About Your Pets - Most people have a pet or have grown up in a house with a pet. You can find out alot about a person through their views on their pets. For example, are they a responsible pet owner?, or could they care less about owning a dog or cat? This also may shed some light on whether or not they are the type of person that is interested in children. It can also show how empathetic they are towards other people or things. Many people have good memories of the pets they grew up with and would love to talk about them.

5) Places You Have Traveled – Exotic travel stories are always a good source of conversation. Many great, strange, or funny stories can come out of traveling. This is a topic that would be interesting to all people. It is a great way to stimulate conversation.

If you are determined to find a serious relationship, you might consider asking questions that pry into their value system. Subjects like religion, children, or future plans may turn some people off. But, that may be necessary if you are looking for a specific type of person. Difficult questions like these may set off a bad reaction, but it can also help you determine if you are truly compatible.

Hot button political issues can be very divisive, and should be avoided at all costs on a first date. Political discussions can ruin a vibe on any fun date – quickly.
